Dan Wilson: “If I think about what the great joys in my life are, very near the top is writing songs,” Dan Wilson reflects. “But that really has to do with singing songs for people—and having them sing the songs too. That’s where the rubber really hits the road for me, when I sing a song for them and they sing it back.” And that, in a nutshell, encompasses the multifaceted career of this a singer, multi- instrumentalist, Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, who for the last several years has been dividing his time between making music for himself—he’s presently putting the finishing touches on his second studio album—and collaborating on songs for other artists to sing. Among Wilson’s collaborations during the last couple of years alone are three songs on Adele’s epochal 21, including the chart-topping “Someone Like You,” which Wilson also co-produced with the artist; as well as co-writes on Weezer’s Hurley, Josh Groban’s Illuminations, Keith Urban’s Get Closer, Pink’s The Truth About Love, Nas' Life Is Good, LeAnn Rimes’ Spitfire and Taylor Swift’s Red.
